Soccer Tricks and Winter Wishes~

I know many of you have probably come across some of the awesome videos posted by our Bulldogs goalkeeper Lassi Hurskainen, but I thought that sharing this video would be a good final blog post before the break.  My brother is a Mass Communication major here at UNC Asheville, and does work with Lassi filming athletic events on campus.  He recently mentioned that he was helping Lassi film another short movie showcasing his athletic abilities, so of course I couldn't wait to see what they came up with.  If you're not familiar with Lassi's videos, these should catch you up to speed (and amaze you).
So, as you can see, this guy is brilliant!  The UNC Asheville Bulldogs have been lucky to have such a talented keeper, and will miss him next season (he's a senior)!  But, that doesn't mean he has to stop making videos, right?  The latest video, which is called "Saving Christmas," is just as entertaining as the ones above, and perfect for the winter season.  I hope you all feel the same way and have a safe, warm, and enjoyable December.  Since the fall semester is officially over, I'm taking a break from the blog, but check back in January to see what I've been up to in Asheville!  Until then~

Afternoon Soccer Game

Yesterday afternoon I attended a men's soccer game for the first time this season.  A few of my friends came up to visit and we decided to stop by the game to enjoy the beautiful weather and support the Bulldogs.  I regret that my first soccer game of 2011 came so late in the season because I had such a fun time.  Many other UNC Asheville fans came out to watch the game, so the air was full of excitement and school spirit, which definitely helped secure the Bulldogs' well-deserved victory.  Although we let in two goals, and had several close calls, the offense made some spectacular breakaways that had me on my feet.  The final score: 4-2 over Presbyterian College.  What a beautiful, adrenaline-filled afternoon!  Go Bulldogs~~

The Big Game

On Friday afternoon, I waited in line with a crowd of UNC Asheville students eager to get our tickets to the UNC Asheville-UNC Chapel Hill game on November 13.  Each student  received a free ticket, so naturally I took advantage of this awesome opportunity.  The entire school is getting really excited for this game, myself included!  Unfortunately, I forgot to bring my camera so I can't show you pictures of our school spirit, but I can show you this.
Jealous?  haha :)

March Madness

Today I want to write about UNC Asheville’s awesome season of Bulldogs basketball. Although I am not the biggest fan of basketball (after a disappointing stint on the junior varsity basketball team in high school I must admit that I never looked back), even I realize that what our men’s team has accomplished this season has been really special.

Beginning, perhaps, with John Williams’ incredible slam-dunk video sensation, the Bulldogs have maintained a fairly steady stream of media coverage, and have not disappointed fans (or opponents for that matter). From being presented with the key to the City of Asheville to earning a spot in the 2011 NCAA Tournament for the first time in eight years, the Bulldogs have kept fans on the edges of their seats, and made them proud.

When I attended the viewing party for the first game of the tournament, the tension and excitement was tangible as our Bulldogs went into overtime for a fantastic victory. Even our bulldog Rocky was present to support the team! Although the Bulldogs did not advance past the next round of the tournament, we have achieved so much. When the school welcomed the team back from Washington, DC last week, it was with pride and excitement, not disappointment.

It’s been a great season for the Bulldogs and the UNC Asheville family. Following and supporting the ups and downs of our team has brought together students, faculty, and the greater Asheville community, and I know we can expect even greater things from them in the future.

If you haven’t seen pictures or videos of the season yet, check out the media below for highlights of the Bulldogs season and NCAA experience.
