Because housing sign up is upon us, I thought I would share with you another insider’s view of a campus residence hall, Founders Hall. This residence hall houses 300 students in double rooms. Each room is connected by a large bathroom with two sinks, a toilet, and a shower. Although the residence hall may appear to be one of our oldest on the outside, I believe the furniture has recently been replaced and the floors re-carpeted. In any case, the interior of this residence hall is very nice. I would highly recommend living in Founders because it is close to Highsmith University Union and the Dining Hall, which is always great when you get the munchies!

- Carpeted rooms
- Air-conditioning
- Open flexible closets
- Loft-able beds and desks
- Laundry room
- High-speed Internet - one port per pillow and wireless hot spots
- Basic cable provided
- Computer lab with free printing (bring your own paper)
- TV lounges
- Vending area
- Several study lounges
- Community kitchen
- Adjacent to the Highsmith University Union and the Dining Hall
- Great view of the Grove Park Inn

Something really great about the furniture here is that the desks are huge, which either means you can use them for storage, studying, and so forth.
As with every residence hall on campus, the beds in Founders can be raised or lowered to a desired height. Also note the Micro-Fridge on the left.
Founders Hall, like the other residence halls, also offers a cable hookup (see TV in the corner)
Finally, check out this bed, which has been lofted to allow this resident to keep his desk under his bed and make more space in the rest of the room.

I was wondering if perhaps rooms didn't have to be shared? I understand that yes they are connected, but does there have to be two people to a room, four people to the whole suite? Is this allowed at all, or is it more on the line of "if there are only three people left at the end of the day"?
As it's pretty competitive to live on campus (there are only a certain number of spots available), you're almost guaranteed to have a roommate if you live in a double room. Perhaps your roommate might not come or will transfer mid-year. If this is the case, someone might move from a different residence hall into your room, or they might not, leaving you with the room to yourself. Last semester, for example, my friend's roommate left during the first month of school and she did not get a new roommate. When I transferred here, I moved into the residence hall with only 2 months left to go in the semester. As you can see, it really just depends on the situation. 4 people maximum per suite in Founder's. Hope this helps!
I like the rooms,the walls are normal and do not look like bathroom tiles. Also as from pictures the rooms seem pretty big in size and the windows are nice and big.
But I've been hearing lately that Founders isn't that popular,why?
Founders Hall usually houses freshmen, so many older students are more interested in "quieter" residence halls like Governor's Hall and the Ridges. However, my brother lived in Founder's Hall last year, and I have several friends living there now, and they have all really enjoyed the experience! The rooms have recently been renovated and are really nice~ I'd definitely keep it as an option if you choose UNC Asheville!
Is there anyway to loft a bed, without the desk under it? I was interested in putting a couch under one of them and the tv under the other.
Are students allowed to hang curtains in their dorm rooms?
