After a stressful week, I'm back again with another post about residence halls at UNC Asheville. Today, I bring you "the Ridges". South Ridge, and its counterpart, West Ridge, are identical dorms, and are situated the farthest from the academic part of campus than the other dorms. I really like visiting my friends in “the Ridges” because the walk there takes me through one of the several wooded areas of campus, and brings me very close to the Botanical Gardens of Asheville (blog post on this to come when the flowers start blooming there). This area of campus is tucked away from the main activity of campus, and seems to me like a small community in and of itself, a little bit like a landlocked country. South Ridge houses 112 students and West Ridge holds 148 students, and both dorms offer the same amenities:
-One microwave-refigerator per room
-Carpeted rooms
-Air-conditioning
-Laundry room
-Community Kitchen
-TV lounge
-Vending Area
-Several study lounges
-High-speed Internet (one port per student and wireless hot spots)
-Free basic cable service
-Parking deck
Be sure to check out the photos of a typical "Ridges" room:
A great bonus for residents of South Ridge and West Ridge: the bathrooms are huge!!
"Ridges" floor plan
The floorplan makes it look like the bathroom is simply open to one of the two rooms that share it. Is it, or is that just an error?
John,
It looks like that's just a small error, sorry for the confusion! The bathroom is closed on all sides by walls, with doors from each room offering access to the bathroom. Hope that helps!

I'll be staying in West Ridge- do the rooms come with a shower curtain and blinds?
How big are the desks in the pictures? Are those the standard desks? Are the shelves removable, or do some come without shelves?
Anonymous #1--The rooms do come with blinds, and I believe you'll need to bring a shower curtain for the shower. (It's always a good idea to have a spare, though, just in case I'm wrong). If you'd like curtains, you should bring those as well, and remember to bring a spring rod to on which to hang them.
Anonymous #2--University desks range only slightly in size, and the ones in the pictures are pretty much the average desk size. If you live in Founder's Hall, the desks are actually much bigger (they had some upgrades to the furniture with their recent renovation), but the other dorms on campus have desks of a similar size. The shelves on these ones cannot be moved, but if you check out the page for Governor's Hall, you'll notice that the desks have shelves rather than drawers. These shelves are adjustable.
Hope that helps~
I love the size of the bathrooms in the Ridges's! However, I want to make sure I have a window inh my dorm! Does every dorm have a window?
Yes, every room has a window!
