Health and Counseling Center

I mentioned a few posts ago that I've been feeling under the weather lately.  The 'bug' I've caught seems to have stuck around since that post, so I thought it was about time to take a visit to the doctor.  Although I live in Asheville, and have a local physician that I see for check-ups, I didn't have much time this week to get off campus, so I decided to visit the school's Health and Counseling Center.  It was my first time using the school's health services, so I was quite unsure of what to expect when I went yesterday.  Here's what I found out:

Regardless of whether you have purchased insurance through the school's carrier or you are covered by a different insurance agency, you can visit the health center for a consultation free of charge.  I fall into the latter category of individuals, so when I went, I was concerned that I might have to pay for my appointment.  Fortunately, as I discovered, I was not charged for the visit; however, had I needed any medication, I would have either been written a prescription (which I could then have taken to the drug store to have filled, and paid with my own insurance), or purchased it from the Health and Counseling Center.

Now, something that I was not aware of yesterday when I went to the Health Center was that although there are walk-in hours, it's really best to call ahead and make an appointment.  I arrived to find the Health Center full of students either waiting to see the doctor, or making appointments, so I had to make an appointment to return the following day (this morning).   Planning ahead for a visit to the Health Center, as for many other things in life, is always a great idea!  When I went back this morning, I checked in, was seen by a doctor, and checked-out all within an hour.  Everyone working there was kind, helpful, and professional.  I felt that it was a safe and comfortable space, and could imagine that anyone who needed to seek either the medical or counseling services offered by the Health Center, would feel comfortable visiting.

This health and counseling center is so impressive because of their high tech facilities and competitive medical practitioners. I wish you also have a dental clinic so I wont have to get porcelain veneers in Beverly Hills.
